Beanies and Toques at Arc’teryx

A beanie does a small job well by holding heat where you lose it fast and packing into a pocket when the sun comes out. Toque is the Canadian word for the same thing, and we use it for most of our knit styles, from wool blends to lightweight merino.

What’s the difference between the Bird Head Toque and Grotto beanies?

The Bird Head Toque is our classic logo toque, made from a wool and recycled polyester blend with a brushed polyester band for softness. The Grotto Toque is a mid-length winter beanie in 100% recycled polyester with a colourful abstract bird logo, and the Word Head Toque is reversible, with an Arc’teryx graphic on one side, a solid colour on the other and six darts for a close fit. Pair one with our skiing and snowboarding gear for lift days.

Which beanies and toques suit hiking in wool blends?

Cold mornings on a track call for Tech Wool, which blends Merino warmth with synthetic fibres that draw sweat away when you pick up the pace. The Ribbed Toque has a chunky knit, a low-profile fit and a rolled cuff that locks heat around your ears, the Grotto Rib Toque has an adjustable fit and height, and the Color Block Toque is a midweight beanie option for shoulder-season hikes. Layer any of them with merino wool hiking socks and a men’s hiking jacket or women’s hiking jacket.

Which low-profile beanies fit under a helmet?

A skull cap style means a close, low-profile fit that sits under a helmet or hood. The Satoro Merino Toque fits that brief, with low-profile stitching, minimalist construction and a wool blend that breathes when you are working hard. The Rho Balaclava adds full coverage under a helmet on cold days. Pair any of them with a lightweight base layer.

Beanie FAQs

What is a toque, and is it the same as a beanie?

Yes. Toque is the Canadian word for a beanie, and it appears in most of our product names from our North Vancouver base, so the Bird Head Toque, Grotto Toque and Ribbed Toque are all beanies. The difference is the name, not the product. Some styles have a cuff, some sit close and low and some are light enough for a run.

What is an Arc’teryx beanie made from?

It varies by style. The Bird Head Toque is a wool and recycled polyester beanie, the Ribbed and Color Block toques use Tech Wool fleece, and the Grotto Toque is recycled polyester. For warm weather, the Skaha Toque is a rib-knit beanie in cotton and Coolmax fibres at a weight made for spring, summer and autumn. See our hiking caps for hotter days.

Is an Arc’teryx beanie for men or women?

Both. Each beanie or toque is listed as unisex, so the range suits men and women alike, and most come in a single size. A few styles, including the Rho Balaclava and the Satoro Merino Headband, come in S-M and L-XL, so check the size selector on those product pages.

Which colours does the Arc’teryx beanie range come in?

Colours change every season, and each colourway has its own listing, so the range on this page is the current one. Black appears on styles such as the Bird Head, Grotto, Ribbed and Satoro Merino toques, with two-tone colourways alongside it. Open any beanie to compare its swatches before you choose.
