SOFTSHELL JACKETS
Don’t bring a softshell to a Hotham powder day. You’ll be miserable. But a high-country bluebird groomer day? Maybe. It’s relatively simple. If your day looks sopping wet and blowing sideways, you will need a hardshell jacket. Otherwise, you can probably get away with a lightweight softshell or windshell jacket. They’re generally not windproof, but they stop most of the wind. The outer layer is generally not waterproof qualifying as a torrential rain jacket, but they stop water.
