Men’s GORE-TEX Jacket at Arc’teryx
GORE-TEX is the membrane behind most of our wet-weather jackets, and the name covers several builds, so it helps to know which one you are buying. This collection also gathers the boots and gloves that use it. The same jacket may see Melbourne drizzle on a Monday and Snowy Mountains sleet on a Saturday.
What’s the difference between GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX PRO jacket fabrics?
The Beta Jacket is our most versatile GORE-TEX jacket, pairing the membrane with an 80D face fabric and a C-KNIT backer. The Beta AR moves up to GORE-TEX PRO, a membrane we developed with Gore for maximum durability. The Beta SV uses GORE-TEX PRO ePE for snow, wind and heavy rain, with a two-way front zip that gives access to a harness or hip belt. See the full set of hardshell jackets.
Is the Sabre line the right men’s GORE-TEX jacket for snow?
On snow the Sabre line works as a system. The Sabre Jacket uses 80D ePE GORE-TEX with a StormHood that adjusts to maximise peripheral vision, the Sabre Relaxed Pant has a 200D recycled nylon canvas face with thigh vents, and the Sabre Glove pairs a GORE-TEX insert with PrimaLoft insulation. For resort days, the Macai Shell Jacket adds a removable, helmet-compatible DropHood with a tall collar. Browse all ski jackets.
Should I choose the Monitor Coat, Secant SL or Arris as an everyday GORE-TEX jacket?
A GORE-TEX jacket earns its keep on the commute too. The Monitor Coat is a 3L all-season GORE-TEX coat cut relaxed, with room for warm midlayers and a classic fishtail hem. The Secant SL is a superlight GORE-TEX jacket with a laminated elastic hem for daily city wear, and the Arris adds a low-profile StormHood with internal cord routing for walks in the wet. Add GORE-TEX pants when the rain is steady.
Men’s GORE-TEX Jacket FAQs
Why is my GORE-TEX jacket wetting out, and does it need washing?
Wetting out is the face fabric soaking up water, and it can show up sooner on newer ePE membranes. It does not affect the membrane’s waterproofing. Wash the jacket and tumble dry it on a normal setting to remove oil contamination and bring the DWR back, following the home wash guides on our ReBIRD wash and repair page.
How should a GORE-TEX jacket fit over layers?
Fit varies by jacket. The Beta Jacket has a regular fit that layers over or under other pieces, the Monitor Coat is cut relaxed with room for warm midlayers, and the Alpha Lightweight sits closer to the body for climbing. Try a jacket on with your thickest midlayer and check you can lift your arms freely and close the hood without it pulling at your chin.
Is a GORE-TEX jacket breathable enough for hiking uphill?
The fabric helps, but ventilation does the rest. The Beta AR and Beta Insulated have pit zippers, the Alpha Lightweight has a deep front zip for ventilation, and the Beta Jacket’s C-KNIT backer adds comfort next to the skin. Open the zips early on a climb rather than waiting until you are wet. On dry days a hiking jacket is the lighter layer.
Which men’s GORE-TEX jackets are light enough to carry all day?
The Alpha SL Jacket is an ultralight build with a 20D Hadron face fabric and a fully adjustable, helmet-compatible StormHood, and the Alpha Lightweight is a light, packable Alpha built for alpine climbing and hiking. The Beta SL is our lightest Beta, with pit zippers and a C-KNIT backer. Any of them packs small enough to carry for the day the forecast turns.
