A hiking fleece is the layer that keeps you warm while you work. We build our men's hiking fleeces to breathe under sustained effort, moving moisture outward as fast as you make it so warmth never turns to chill. Drawing on our climbing roots, each one balances warmth, stretch, and breathability for the long climbs and shifting conditions of a day in the mountains.
A lifestyle fleece is made to feel soft at rest; a hiking fleece is made to move. Open-knit and grid-backed fabrics release vapour quickly, articulated sleeves follow your stride, and a trim cut layers cleanly under a men's shell jacket without bunching at the shoulder. That is the line between a technical mid layer and a weekend pullover.
Warmth is only useful when it matches your output. A lighter grid fleece breathes best on hard ascents and milder days, while a heavier fleece holds more heat for cold, low-output starts. We make a range so you can match the layer to the effort, rather than carrying more warmth than the climb asks for.
A men's softshell jacket turns wind and light rain, while a hiking fleece prioritises breathability and warmth. On exposed, blustery ridgelines a softshell often has the edge; in still cold air or beneath a shell, fleece breathes better and weighs less. Many of us carry both and choose by the wind.
Fleece sits at the heart of the layering system. A base layer moves sweat off the skin, the fleece holds warmth and passes vapour outward, and a men's waterproof jacket or men's insulated jacket handles weather and rest-stop cold on top. Each layer does one job, so the system stays light and efficient.
We cut our hiking fleece trim and athletic, with flatlock seams that lie flat beneath a pack harness and a hem that holds on steep ground. When the temperature drops further, our men's ski & snow fleece runs warmer, and the right hiking footwear completes the kit.
